The Republic of the Maldives is an island nation located in the Indian ocean and Arabian sea.
An average ground elevation of 1.5 meters above sea level . It is world's lowest - lying country.
On 17th October 2009 President Mohammed Nasheed and 13 government officials held an under water cabinet meeting in Girifushi to call international attention to the threat of global warming on the island nation.
The 30 minute cabinet meeting held six meters below sea-level was intended to show what the future could hold for the Maldives.
